Blue Earth

Every Friday, Year 1 get together for some action packed fun with Blue Earth, our PE program. This program is fabulous and all of the games are designed so that all children are involved at all times. The students really enjoy the games. This one is called Bombardment. The objective is to hit a ball in the middle of a square with smaller balls until it crosses your opponents line.

A visit from the Fire Officers!

Year One were very lucky to have been visited by the Fire Brigade Officers again this week. They were so impressed with how much the children knew about Fire Safety, and all of the children graduated with a special certificate to mark the occasion.
This time, the fire officers brought the fire truck with them! We learned so much about all the equipment on the truck and then each had a turn at spraying the fire hose. It was a great thrill for all the children! Special thanks to the men from the Beenleigh Fire Station for taking the time out of their busy day to spend some of it with us!
God bless,
Isabelle Vargas

What a busy term!

The students of 1V have worked so hard this term, studying all about the weather, and about Australian Animals. Here are some pics of their work!

We have been doing alot of work on Mathematical concepts as well...this week we had to work out how many legs each group of farm animals had. We learned about counting in groups of twos and fours.

PESKY SEED PODS
We were working hard for our school community on Monday, by picking up all of the seed pods on the adventure playground...

we were so surprised to find that we completely filled 3 laundry tubs! The red tub team filled their's first and won the seed pod competition! well done to all the students -who helped to clean up our school environment and keep it safe!

Book Week Parade -Tuesday 15th September 2009

Fleay's Wildlife park

Year One had a fabulous day at Fleay's Wildlife Park in Burleigh today!
There were so many amazing Australian animals at the park, and Ranger Jesse shared alot of interesting information with us about them all. The students especially enjoyed seeing the crocodiles and going through the nocturnal house where we watched two platypuses playing and swimming through the water. We learned so much about all the animals we have been studying in class and had a super fun day! A special thank you to Mrs Follett and Mrs Leadbetter for coming along and assisting with today.

SHOW N' SHARE

Once a week, the students of 1V have a chance to present some interesting information through their scheduled Show and Share time. The students are encouraged to prepare for this presentation at home and to bring in resources and props to engage their audience further. The students are very motivated and we are always fascinated by each day's presentations. This week, Gabby wore a costume from Holland and brought in a beautiful scrapbook to help with her talk. Campbell shared his adventures in Perth visiting the Mint, and brought in a bounty of artefacts to share with his classmates. Thank you to families who support this activity, which is an integral part of the students Speaking and Listening education.

Thank you Miss Alisha!

Last Friday, we said a sad farewell to Miss Alisha Philbrook, who has spent the last 4 weeks with 1V, on her practicum. Miss Alisha attends Griffith University and is a 3rd year student. She did a fabulous job on her prac. and helped to initiate our Toy Making unit, as well as guiding the students in preparing their own obstacle course for the upcoming Healthy Lifestyle Day at St Joseph's (22nd June). It was a pleasure to have her in our classroom, and the students connected with her immediately.

We wish her all the best for the future!

DRESS UP FOR ROSIES

1V joined the rest of the school for a day of fun, dressing up as things/people that began with the letter "J".

It was so great to see all of the children participate and many thanks goes out to clever families for helping the children to create their imaginative and truly magical outfits!

Well done!

The school raised around $500, so it was a fantastic fundraising effort.

Thank you!

This term 1V is investigating toys and learning about how they work. We have been categorising them and also learning about the different ways objects move. We will soon be designing and building our own toys as part of our Negotiated Learning unit.
